CHAPTER ELEVEN

Olivia said a quick “hello” and “goodbye” to Easton, Hudson and Colton and made a hasty escape, leaving Adam to answer their questions. Because she had no doubt they’d have more questions than the one that Easton had already asked to interrupt the sizzling kiss she’d been enjoying with his dad.

It was always embarrassing to be caught in a compromising position, but to be caught in a lip-lock by Adam’s children—one of whom was a student in her class!—was beyond awkward. As she drove away from the ranch, she felt certain that her cheeks would never stop burning.

Of course, her cheeks weren’t the only part of her burning, and she couldn’t help but wonder how far things might have gone if they hadn’t been interrupted.

She’d been home less than ten minutes when a dark SUV pulled into her driveway. Looking out the front window, her silly heart leaped inside her chest as she let herself imagine—for that brief second before the driver’s door opened and an unfamiliar figure got out—that Adam had followed her back to town to tell her that he’d changed his mind about her proposal.

Or that he at least wanted to finish what they’d started.

But it wasn’t Adam.

It was a delivery person with an enormous bouquet of yellow, red and purple flowers in a tall cylindrical vase.

“Olivia Gilmore?” the man asked when she opened the door.

“That’s me,” she confirmed.

He handed her the flowers. “Have a nice day.”

“Thank you.”

She set the vase on the coffee table and pulled the card out of the envelope.

I’m so sorry about last night, and I know I’ve given you too many excuses and not enough flowers, so hopefully these will help restore some balance.

XO Leo

She sank down onto the edge of the sofa and buried her face in her hands. She’d completely forgotten about Leo!

How could she have forgotten about Leo?

She’d been upset about being stood up again the previous night, but truth be told, as soon as she’d seen Adam at Jo’s, she’d forgotten about her aborted plans with the doctor. At least until she and Adam had come back to her house and he’d commented on the candles and wine on the table.

Should she feel guilty?

Obviously Leo did, if the gorgeous arrangement of roses, asters, carnations and chrysanthemums was any indication.

But really, he had no reason to feel guilty. She understood that a doctor’s patients would always be his priority. And while he’d probably been busy at the hospital again today, following up on last night’s surgeries, she’d been making out with Adam Morgan.

She pulled her phone out of the side pocket of her purse and accessed his contact information.

The flowers are gorgeous—thank you.

She didn’t expect a quick reply to her text message and was startled when her phone immediately rang. And again when she glanced at the screen and saw the caller identified as Leo Delissio.

She swiped to connect the call. “Hi.”

“I’m so sorry,” Leo said in lieu of a greeting.

“You already said that on the card.”

“I feel as if I can’t say it enough times,” he told her.
